110 singers learn Elgar classic in a day at WFCS workshop
2nd April, 2017
More than 100 keen amateur singers from across the County and beyond joined members of Worcester Festival Choral Society at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday 1st April 2017, for an exhilarating 'Come and Sing' choral workshop day.
The special workshop offered singers the chance to rehearse and informally perform Sir Edward Elgar's choral classic, The Dream of Gerontius, in just one day.
Led by Worcester Cathedral’s Assistant Director of Music Christopher Allsop, the event included anecdotes about Sir Edward Elgar and his Worcester connections, as well as original recordings of the work. The day concluded with an informal performance of The Dream of Gerontius, attended by participants’ friends and family.
Ben Cooper, Chairman of Worcester Festival Choral Society, said: “Whether participants had sung Dream of Gerontius before or were trying it out for the first time, this Come & Sing day was great fun and extremely well received. It was a superb chance to enjoy what is often considered Elgar’s finest choral work.”
Worcester Festival Choral Society will be holding its next Come & Sing workshop day on Saturday 7th April 2018. Details of the work to be sung, and arrangements for the day, will be announced on the Society's website soon.
