WFCS announces its glittering 2025-26 concert season!
26th August, 2025
From Handel, Elgar and Mendelssohn to Duruflé, Haydn and Boulanger, the region’s leading large classical choir, Worcester Festival Choral Society, has announced it will be bringing some of the world’s most popular choral and orchestral greats to the magnificent surroundings of Worcester Cathedral in its coming season.
The highly respected 150-strong choir, which was established in 1861 and frequently conducted by Sir Edward Elgar in its early days, will present three, major evening concerts – each expected to draw an audience of more than 500 music lovers.
• The first concert is on Saturday 22 November, when the choir presents three beautiful choral works, including Duruflé’s ethereal Requiem. The orchestra will also perform Elgar’s much-loved Enigma Variations
• The following performance heralds Christmas with Handel’s glittering Messiah by candlelight on Saturday 6 December – with charitable donations invited in aid of local grant-making charity, the Worcestershire Community Foundation
• The season then closes with Mendelssohn’s monumental choral spectacular, Elijah, on Saturday 21 March 2026
Each concert will feature internationally acclaimed soloists and the Meridian Sinfonia orchestra, all under the baton of Worcester Cathedral’s director of music, Samuel Hudson.
Susan White, Chairman of Worcester Festival Choral Society, said: “Hearing live choral music on a large scale is an unforgettable experience. This season we’ve got some especially exciting music in store. Do come and enjoy the perfect evening out!”
