Thrill
to the glorious sound of 140 choral voices and symphony orchestra presenting
the most beautiful music from Duruflé, Elgar, Haydn and more, in this
season-opening concert from the region’s leading, large classical choir,
Worcester Festival Choral Society.
Come
and discover the ethereal Requiem by French composer Maurice Duruflé – one of
the finest works in the choral repertoire. Blending Gregorian chant with the
rich harmonies of French impressionistic music, this luscious Requiem speaks to
the soul.
There’s
also an unmissable orchestral treat to savour – Sir Edward Elgar’s beloved Enigma
Variations, including the deeply emotional ‘Nimrod’. Completing this musical
feast are Joseph Haydn’s sparkling choral motet, Insanae et Vanae Curae, and
Lili Boulanger’s Vieille Prière Bouddhique (Old Buddhist Prayer), filled with
exotic mysticism.
Appearing
alongside Worcester Festival Choral Society are acclaimed soloists and the
Meridian Sinfonia orchestra, with Worcester Cathedral’s director of music
Samuel Hudson conducting… and the magnificent Worcester Cathedral setting
adding the perfect finishing touch.
So
come along and experience the live, large-scale magic of some true Choral
Greats this autumn!
